5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is a naturally occurring amino acid that is the intermediate step between tryptophan and the important brain chemical serotonin. 5-HTP is also known as oxitriptan and helps to calm anxiety, improves mood, controls appetite, and is used as a sleep aid.

5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan) is produced as a by-product of L-tryptophan, which is a protein building block.
